Reactor vessels used over the long term tend to accumulate residual waste that gradually builds up inside them over time. This not only reduces the vessel’s effective capacity but can also adversely affect the reaction itself due to the chemical composition of the residues. In addition to proper operation and routine maintenance, PP reactor vessels require careful attention to cleaning procedures. For instance, after each batch operation, it’s essential to remove any residual materials from both the vessel body and sealing surfaces using a suitable cleaning solution—taking care, however, to ensure that the cleaning solution does not cause corrosion of the main material. Regular cleaning is crucial to keep the vessel in pristine condition; never use hard objects or abrasive materials for cleaning. Now, let’s take a closer look at the proper methods for cleaning PP reactor vessels!

Cleaning the PP reactor can directly improve reaction conditions, enhance heat transfer efficiency, and reduce energy consumption during the production process. Cleaning the reactor ensures the purity of the reaction, minimizes the impact of impurity reactions, and lowers the likelihood of safety incidents. Moreover, keeping the reactor clean helps reduce the workload on heat-exchange equipment and extends its service life.
Mechanical cleaning
Mechanical cleaning is the most commonly used method for cleaning reaction vessels. Among these methods, high-pressure washing machines are the most widely adopted. Their advantages include effective removal of common debris such as powder clumps and accumulated deposits, simple and convenient operation, low cleaning costs, and generally minimal wear and tear. However, their disadvantage is a relatively limited scope of applicability.
Besides high-pressure washers, which rarely cause damage to the reactor vessel, other mechanical cleaning methods—such as manual scraping and chiseling—are relatively simple yet rough. In practical operations, it’s crucial to take care not to damage the vessel. Moreover, since mechanical cleaning is limited by operational techniques, it is particularly suitable for reactors that can be disassembled and should be avoided when used with large or non-disassemblable reactors.
Chemical cleaning
Chemical cleaning first requires determining the composition of the scale, selecting the appropriate cleaning solvent, and then assessing the safety of the cleaning process as well as the corrosion resistance of the reactor vessel. Chemical cleaning is a commonly used method for cleaning reaction vessels and is widely applied; however, the disposal of chemical waste liquids is challenging, and it causes serious environmental pollution.
During chemical cleaning, in addition to the cleaning solvent reacting with the dirt, other relevant components of the reactor can also undergo corrosion. Therefore, it is essential to carefully select detergents and provide adequate protection for both equipment and personnel.
Automatic cleaning
The PP reactor automatic cleaning system is a reactor-cleaning device specially developed by DeGaoJie. It integrates technologies and applications from multiple disciplines, including high-pressure water jets, piping engineering, and modern control systems. The underlying principle is that the kinetic energy of the high-pressure water jet breaks down and completely removes hard deposits from the inner walls of the reactor and the surfaces of the agitator blades.
The automatic cleaning system for PP reactors uses a manhole telescopic positioning mechanism to deliver a three-dimensional, automatically rotating nozzle to the designated position within the reactor. Once power is connected, this three-dimensional tank cleaner performs automatic cleaning operations, generating a complete spherical spray pattern during a single operating cycle. The system features stirring blades and a shaft in the middle. To ensure thorough cleaning without any dead spots, two three-dimensional cleaning tanks are used simultaneously to clean one reactor vessel, enabling comprehensive 360-degree cleaning of the reactor’s inner surface.
The automatic cleaning system for PP reactors can select the appropriate pressure level based on the analysis of scale buildup in the reactor and the specific cleaning requirements, ensuring that the surface of the PP reactor remains smooth and preventing scale from easily adhering to its walls. This mechanized and automated process is several times faster than traditional methods—cleaning a single PP reactor takes only about 15 minutes. The cleaning efficiency exceeds 90%, saving energy and reducing costs.
