When operating a PP reactor or a cryogenic reactor, it’s crucial to master the correct operating procedures to ensure optimal performance. So, let’s take a closer look at the operating methods for PP reactors!

PP Reactor Operation:
1. Before using the pp reactor, clean it with a solvent that does not participate in the reaction. After two washings, perform GC analysis. When the concentration of relevant impurities in the solvent is less than 0.1%, proceed to wash the reactor twice (each time with 20–30 kg) using an anhydrous solvent that does not participate in the reaction, and then dry it before use.
2. After confirming that the PP reactor meets the feed requirements, place the reaction matrix (in an anhydrous state) and the solvent into the reactor, stir until the pressure reaches -0.1 MPa, then evacuate the reactor and replace the gases inside with nitrogen. Next, introduce nitrogen gas into the reactor. Install a liquid-seal bottle made from “soap” at the reactor’s open port.
3. After confirming that all equipment is functioning properly, remove the cover plate at the jacket outlet and pass liquid nitrogen through the jacket to cool it down to the required temperature.
4. Under nitrogen protection, slowly add n-butyllithium into the reaction vessel.
5. After the reaction is complete, approach the liquid nitrogen in the jacket, cover the vent opening with a vapor cap, and turn on the circulation pump of the anhydrous ethanol storage tank to raise the temperature. Once the temperature reaches the desired level, begin maintaining the temperature.
6. After insulation is complete, pour the ethanol into the jacket.
The PP reactor is a stainless steel vessel designed for integrated reactions. Its structural features and accessory configurations are tailored to the specific reaction conditions. The selection of a PP reactor is also based on the intended mixing purpose and the flow patterns generated during mixing. An advantage of this approach is that it defines the application scope of slurry molds according to the characteristics of the mixing process, making the selection more precise and targeted.
The reaction process is initiated from the very beginning, and all reaction outputs are completed under highly automated conditions according to pre-set reaction steps. This allows for strict control of critical parameters during the reaction, including temperature, pressure, mechanical control (such as stirring and air supply), and concentrations of reactants and products. To obtain qualified reaction products, it is essential to have a reactor that is reasonably designed, performs well, and meets the following requirements.
1) Meets the requirements of chemical, kinetic, and mass-transfer processes; features fast reaction rates, excellent selectivity, high conversion yields, numerous target products, and minimal by-products.
2) It can efficiently and promptly input and output heat, maintaining the system’s thermal balance and ensuring that the reaction process proceeds at an appropriate temperature.
3) It has sufficient mechanical strength and corrosion resistance to meet the pressure requirements of the reaction process, ensuring the durability of the equipment and guaranteeing production safety.
4) Easy to manufacture, convenient for installation and maintenance, flexible in operation and adjustment, and long production cycle.
An electromagnetic valve is connected in series to the heat source pipe at the top of the PP reactor. The reactor is equipped with a built-in temperature sensor, and a cooling water pipe is installed on the reactor. An outlet hole is provided on the back side of the pipe. The annular cooling water pipe is connected via an electromagnetic valve to either tap water or a backup water supply line. At the lower part of the reactor, a water collection cylinder is installed, with a temperature sensor mounted on one side of the cylinder’s bottom. A drain pipe is connected to the middle of the cylinder’s bottom through another electromagnetic valve. This design addresses the current drawback of relying heavily on manual labor for temperature control in reactors. By using just two temperature sensors and three electromagnetic valves, automatic temperature control can be achieved, significantly reducing the physical workload of operators, making the process convenient and effortless, and simplifying the production procedure.
